Here's an overview of what you can read in this detailed article on the new 2024 (model W214) Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

1. Exterior
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has always been a reflection of the flagship model of its time the S-Class.
Just like the previous model, this new model looks very similar to the S-Class. With now the C, E and S-Class being very similar in design, it's again very hard to differentiate the three models. With each model you just get more in size and comfort.
So how does this new design look?
It actually looks very similar to the 2022 CLS that has now been discontinued. The nose is much more agressive and sharper. With now sharper lines on the side giving the car an impactful stance and a unique rear tailight design. The overall design of the new E-Class is sharper and more agressive. The previous generation had a much softer/happier look, especially from the rear.
Safer design approach
While BMW is going crazy with its modern design language, Mercedes-Benz took the safe approach with this new E-Class design. It is exactly how you would expect the new E-Class to be. It's an elegant, sleek and classy design. It's slightly larger in size to the outgoing version, increasing its presence on the road.

What's new?
The front design received a new (optional) illuminated LED grille which stays on the whole time while driving. You can see it as an addition to the day time runing lights in the headlights itself. This new feature is a first in the E-Class and an optional extra.
On the side we also notice a very new feature that enhances the body line of the car. You can see a single line that starts from the front, dissapears in the middle and appears back in the rear. It brings a very muscular look to the body of the car.
In the rear, we again have to deal with fake exhaust pipes. Something that BMW never does and this does bring quite a cheap look. Especially for the price you will pay on a new E-Class, you will not expect a fake exhaust pipe. Anyhow, what is quite new in the rear are the lights. For the first time we see the Mercedes-Benz star incorporated in the rear lights. Quite a fancy look!
AMG Line vs Exclusive Line
You can choose to trim your new E-Class in either the sporty AMG Line or the classy Exclusive Line. The sportier AMG version gets an agressive body design, lowered ride height and a stiffer suspension. While Exclusive Line benefits from a luxurious exterior and a more comfortable suspension setting.
Rear axle steering
When driving long limousines, the long turning circle can be an annoyance when manoeuvring through tight spaces. With the new E-Class model we finally have rear axle steering like in the larger S-Class. The rear axle can turn up to 4.5 degrees and massively reduce the turning circle by almost a meter.
Flush doorhandles
Another new feature on the E-Class are doorhandles that retract into the bodywork. Making the exterior look very sleek and flush.

2. Interior
The interior also received a major change, although not as spectacular as we thought. It is a smaller version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS interior, with the use of frankly too much screens and an absense of physical buttons (to save cost?).
Superscreen
The previous generation E-Class was an incredible step forward with the size of the screen. Two large displays were nicely integrated in the cockpit. You had a perfect balance between digital screens and physical control buttons. With the rise of touchscreen and touch buttons, it was almost inevitable to see this trend being followed in the new E-Class.
It's not the Hyperscreen from the EQS, but the less larger Superscreen:
- 1 screen for the driver
- 1 screen in the center console
- 1 screen for the passenger
The feedback on the screen from Mercedes-Benz fans has been quite negative. The use of screens is actually a much cheaper solution than having a combination of digital screens and physical buttons. To develop buttons with incorporated screens is more sophisticated and expensive. The new BMW 5-Series does have a more sophisticated and more luxurious interior design.
Vegan-friendly interior
Gone are the days of dead cow skin in the interior, now you can opt for an animal friendly interior that should be just as durable to real leather.

3. Practicality
The E-Class is a preferred vehicle in the Taxi industry and mainly because of two very important practical features.
- Boot space
- Rear seating space
Compared to the previous generation E-Class, this latest version has slightly more legroom in the rear thanks to its increased wheelbase. The increase in length has been exactly 14mm, this extra length is not going to be very noticeable from the exterior compared to the previous version. However, for the passengers in the rear, this extra will make a difference in room.
Concerning the boot space, not much has changed compared to the previous E-Class. It is just as large, with the possibility to fold the rear seats for even more space.
Overall the Mercedes-Benz E-Class remains a practical luxury limousine with sufficient space and amenities for its passengers.

4. Engines
Here's where things get very interesting with the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
Electrification has become a trend since governments are pushing the whole industry to endorse fully electric vehicles. Zero emissions is indeed the best solution to increase the quality of life as a whole, but it still isn't a fully green solution as the production of an EV is more polluting than an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.
Luckily, brands like Mercedes-Benz and BMW are still going to produce ICE vehicles for their top segment cars.
Having said that, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class comes with a strong engine line-up for the Belgian market. They are similar to the previous generation engines, available in Diesel, Petrol and Hybrid.
Expect the same engines like in the previous generation: E200, E200d, E300e...
More information on the engines will follow once we have a clear list available.

5. Driving
The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class will drive very similarly to the outgoing model. They are in most cases configured with normal coil suspension and not with air suspension like in the GLE or S-Class. Thus the ride will not be as soft/floaty compared to those models.
However, because of the less sophisticated suspension it is quite cheaper compared to an equivalent configured GLE SUV. Continue reading to see how much the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class will cost you in Belgium.
The E-Class feels much less direct and agile in comparison to the smaller C-Class. You immediatly notice the weight and especially the length of the car while driving. The length was something you noticed the most after taking a few turns with the older model. But now that it has rear axle steering this will be much less noticeable in the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Weight will obviously be noticeable, but thanks to the comfortable ride you will not be bothered by it when cruising on the highway.

6. Safety
At the time of writing, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class did not receive an NCAP rating. But we can say with certainty that the new E-Class will pass all tests with high safety marks. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a very important model for the German brand, so there will be no compromise in regards to safety for occupants and pedestrians.

The new E-Class will have much less discount in the first year it has been launched, over time the discounts will increase.
When the new E-Class will be availabe the first year, the discounts will be maximum 5%. In the second year you may be able to score up to 9% discount. In four years after its initial release the E-Class will have up to 20% discount.
